SONJA BISHOP

Big Dreams! Big dreams spur Sonja Biskop on in her music career. Performing for fifteen years in venues all over northern Europe, she finally realized a taste of her real dream in the summer of 2002 when she sang in the United States for the first time as a contestant in the Washington State Colgate Country Showdown.




Aija Kukule
In 1978 there is issued the record “Naktsputni” where Raimonds Pauls introduced Aija Kukule together in duet with Mirdza Zivere. Kukule often performed in concerts and TV programmes arranged by Raimonds Pauls. The peak of the cooperation is the song “Dâvâja Mâriòa” winning the 1981’s Microphone Song Survey.


Alla Pugachova
Undoubtedly the most outstanding Russian popstar all the time. She has performed and is still performing many melodies written by Raimonds Pauls. Within which there are legendary and sold in millions of copies “Million Roses” and “The Old Clock”.


Ance Krauze
She was born on March 29, 1979 in Riga. In 1999 finished Em.Melngailis Music College in Liepaja. Starting from 1999 she studies at J.Vitols Music Academy. In 2001 Ance took part in the recording of Raimonds Pauls’s album “Nowhere is Better than at Home” and in the concerts in honour of Maestro’s anniversary.


Credo
The group was established in 1974. The cooperation with Raimonds Pauls started in 1978 recording together the instrumental composition “The Rythms of the Sun” and the song “The Song in the Rainy Night”.


Dzeguzite
The children pop-group “Dzeguzite” of Latvia Radio was founded in 1971, but the cooperation with Maestro it started with the common performance during the concert devoted to the 10th anniversary of “Dzeguzite” in 1981.


Edgars Liepins
Legendary Latvian stage master, adventurer and public’s favourite. The cooperation of Pauls and Liepins succeeded with the outcome of the prohibited album “Raimonds Pauls and Edgars Liepins- at the Concert”, in which were included such masterpieces as “Because one couldn’t know why”, “Teddy-bear”, “He-dumpling and She-dumpling”, and many other witty compositions that became folklore stuff at once.


Gunars Kalnins
The cooperation started already when little Gunars being the participant of Children pop-group “Dzeguzite” performed the song “Little Punk” together with Laima Vaikule. The cooperation continued with “The Song about the Search”, “The White Song”, and “The Ballad of Love” from the musical play “The Legend about the Green Maiden” written by Pauls and Racs where Kalnins played the title role. The singer often takes part in the concerts arranged by the composer.


Laima Vaikule
In 1986 becomes popular in the former Soviet republics participating in the popular TV song survey “Song-86” with the song “The Fire of the Night” by Raimonds Pauls.


Janis Kursevs
The singer Janis Kursevs was born on June 6, 1977 in Jelgava. He attended elementary schools in Eleja and Platone, and Jelgava Music College, Department of Conductors. At present he studies at the Latvia Academy of Music, Vocal Department under the guidance of Professor Karlis Zarins. During the studies in Jelgava Music College participated in the popgroup “Boys’ Flag” where he performed also the songs of his own.


Maria Naumova
In 1997 Pauls invited Maria to perform in his concert devoted to 100th anniversary of George Gershvin. 1n 1998 she recorded the first solo album where she sang only Raimonds Pauls’s songs in Russian. Also in the next albums “Look into Eyes” and “Ma Voix, Ma Voie” there are several songs by Raimonds Pauls.


Margarita Vilcane
In 1969 Margarita Vilcane participated in recording of Raimonds Pauls’s record “Tev, mana laba” /”For You, My Goodie”/ performing the songs “Vectçtiòð un Vecmâmiòa”, “Zilie lini”, and “Nepârmet man” in duet with Ojars Grinbergs. She has cooperated with Maestro for a long time performing many wonderful songs among which is “The White Sun”, “Ance’s Romance”, “Far Away Paris Radio”, and duets “To Latgale”, “Shining Shell”, “Tell Where the Land Is”, and many, many others.


Nora Bumbiere
(1947-1994) Legendary Latvian popular singer. One of the most outstanding discoveries of Raimonds Pauls. Perennial soloist of “REO”. She performed together with Viktors Lapcenoks. She is well-known with the songs “Why”, “How Silent Is the Night”, “Flashes the Lifetime Wheel”, “Everything Comes and Passes Away”, “In the Hour of Lanterns”, “Mute Song”, and “About the Last Leaf”.


Normunds Rutulis
The singer’s cooperation with Maestro started in 1998 while recording the album “Heath is blooming” in which Normunds Rutulis sang the song by Raimonds Pauls (text by Guntars Racs) “About That/ Mother Was Crying” from the film “The Mill of the Fate”.


Ojars Grinbergs
He has started his singer career in soldiers’ ensemble “Zvaigznite”/”The Star”/. In 1968 he entered the orchestra “REO” conducted by Raimonds Pauls, and became a solo-singer, forming a new duet with Margarita Vilcane.


Remix
Following the initiative of Raimonds Pauls in 1985 there was created a group, which consisted of musicians from several known groups. Initially it was meant as the group of Latvia Radio Studio, but later it became an independently performing unit. One of the best Remix (and also Igo) hits is “As In Old Song” by Raimonds Pauls, which is better known by the title “The Autumn Comes…”.


REO
In 1957 founded “Riga Popular Music Orchestra” (“REO”) was the first professional popular music orchestra in Latvia. Raimonds Pauls conducted that orchestra from 1964 – 1971.


Valeriy Lyeontyev
In 1984 Lyeontyev for the first time took part in Maestro’s programme “Svetas muzikas milestiba” /”The Sacred Love of Music”/. He has recorded several albums with Pauls’s songs in Russian.


Viktors Lapcenoks
Viktors Lapcenoks his cooperation with Maestro started in 1970 when he recorded his first song “Zila”, which is included in the album “Teic, kur zeme ta” / “Tell Where The Land Is”.


Zigfrids Racins
The singer Zigfrids Racins (1936-1998) became popular with the songs “Tev, mana laba, and “Mezrozite”. The song “Mezrozite” in performance of the singer in 1968 won the first song contest “Microphone Song Survey".
