Electronic catalogue of Raimonds Pauls musical works is created

Electronic catalogue of Maestro musical works devoted to the anniversary of Raimonds Pauls will be presented in the White Hall of the National Theatre on 8 January that is created in the result of cooperation among the Ministry of Culture, records company Microphone Records and the producer MicRec.

Dace Melbārde, Minister of Culture, Elita Mīlgrāve, chairwoman of the board of Microphone Records, Guntars Račs, chairman of the board of producing company MicRec, and Daiga Mazvērsīte, music journalist will participate in the event together with the Maestro.

Dace Melbārde, Minister of Culture: “Raimonds Pauls is so popular and loved by people that his songs have become almost folks songs. He can be called a national songster. Maestro can wonderfully feel the anxiety, feelings and diverse nuances of the mood of the society and turn them into music.  I’m very glad and delighted that the works of Maestro are gathered in one place and available for the wide range of interested persons. This is a wonderful gift for the composer in his anniversary and an invaluable treasure for the whole Latvian society.”

Elita Mīlgrāve, chairwoman of the board of Microphone Records: “We are grateful to Raimonds Pauls for confidence and cooperation for many years – till now 67 albums and selections in CD and MC formats, and 5 DVDs with Maestro concert and other video recordings are issued under Microphone Records. However, the range of Maestro works is much broader that we have issued. Till now, summary of Maestro works that would allow identification of works of Raimonds Pauls in general could not be found anywhere. This electronic site is like Maestro’s “Folk song cabinet” that is further supplemented with the current entries and notes and made available for all interested persons.  This was a time-consuming and complicated process that lasted for one year. We are very grateful to all who responded to our appeal and helped to create this site, especially to Daiga Mazvērsīte, and to Ministry of Culture that supported this initiative.”

Creation of Raimonds Pauls work catalogue till now was a hard task. Mostly this was made difficult by the condition that frequently the composer has used one and the same melody for several times – with Latvian and Russian text, and with an instrumental piece of music, besides not all pieces of music of Raimonds Pauls are recorded and issued. Many scores can be found only in handwritings and in the archives of Latvian Radio, theatres, to individual artists or home library of Maestro. For this reason, the current version of catalogue cannot be regarded as a complete, however the main thing is achieved: pieces of work of Raimonds Pauls that are recorded and issued are identified and registered and the notes are publically available to the interested persons. Now there are 2200 titles in the catalogue, but the list more likely is going to be supplemented because the work continues also after the anniversary of Raimonds Pauls.

The new homepage www.raimondspauls.lv will be available for the interested persons from 8 January. Pieces of music can be searched by title, artist, year of composing (publishing), author of text and genre; list of individual fragments is registered for part of cinema and theatre music works. Texts of songs can also be found in the site.
